The AmphiDome

The Amphidome is a portable human-habitat that's fit for terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. It has a multi-sectioned, hemispherically assembled design capable of functioning on land or on water. The Amphibious design enables the unit to support thousands of pounds of cargo. Its buoyant characteristics enable the domesile to serve as an ark in flood-stricken environments.

For many, rampant foreclosures and natural disasters are making alternative dwellings a necessity. Consequently, this project was originally driven by real-world economic constraints. With pending fiscal crisis's on every front, and a painful recession at home and abroad, our target housing market was defined by necessity. However, the AMPHIDOME, with its Classical vaulted design, also appeals to consumers who are motivated by architecture and form as well.

For many, having a place to come home to is becoming less and less a reality. The Amphidome houses the homeless. The Amphidome is a potential place of refuge for the masses. Thermal insulation provides a means of survival, even in the coldest of climates and conditions.

The psychological/metaphysical benefits of dome-living has been discussed since Mesopotamia. Throughout history, there has always been something therapeutic about the absence of right angles. Dome living really needs to be experienced to be understood. When standing underneath the dome of a state capital building, who can resist the feeling of spatial dimension?

The Amphidome addresses socio-economic hardship, environmental survivalism, as well as the pure enjoyment of the classic and the novice.

The dwelling is a 18 foot fiberglass composite dome with eight vaulted sections. The interior of the doom is comprised of a smooth, gel-coat surface that is easily cleaned or wiped down.
The structure makes for a beautiful backyard gazebo, for a nice sheltered grill area, or just for a place for the family to meet.
